Lizmeidy Hernandez named Outstanding Senior in Allied Health


Lizmeidy Hernandez from Hazleton, PA has been named outstanding senior in Allied Health by department faculty. Liz, a double major in Health Sciences, pre-physician assistant option and Sociology, is a member of the Honors College. She has received a host of awards and scholarships including the Hispanic Scholarship, the Univision Scholarship, the Board of Governor’s Scholarship, the Bloomsburg University Women’s Leadership award, the Henry Carver Study Abroad Scholarship, and the Donald A. Watts Husky Ambassador Scholarship.  She is a member of the Alpha Kappa Delta Sociology Honors Society, Tri-Beta Biology Honor Society, and the Alpha Alpha Alpha First-Generation Honor Society. She was recognized with a first year achievement award by Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. Liz has studied abroad twice, in Poland and in South Korea. Liz is active in the campus and community.  She has served as a Professional U panelist for Husky Decision days and for the Board of Governors Scholars. She served as a peer tutor in biology and sociology. Liz has interned in various departments at Geisinger Medical Center and  participated in the Summer Health Professions Education Program at Howard University. She has conducted research on synapsin in Dr. Jennifer Venditti’s laboratory and research in sociology at Bloomsburg University and at Korea University –Sejong. Liz has held numerous leadership positions including a Health Sciences Learning Community Mentor, Relay for Life Chair for Colleges Against Cancer, Husky Ambassador, Board of Governor’s Advisory Board, Orientation Workshop Leader, and Anchor Program Crew Leader.  She has extensive volunteer work and has assisted the Bloomsburg Theatre Ensemble, the Multicultural Center, Camp Victory, the Ronald McDonald House, the American Red Cross, and Catholic Campus Ministry. Her efforts were recognized with the DASL community service award.
