On May 1, 2020, Caitlyn Collins presented her master's thesis defense on "Thermal tolerances of the Caribbean sea urchins Eucidaris TribuloidesEchinometra viridisand Echinometra lucunter (Echinodermata: Echinoidea): Potential impacts of climate change."  Caitlyn's research explored the thermal tolerance of sea urchins, specifically how feeding rates and activity are affected by temperature. Her work included both laboratory studies conducted at Bloomsburg University and field work performed at the Roatan Marine Park in Honduras. During her tenure as a master's student, Caitlyn gave several presentations on various research topics in aquatic biology at the Eastern Pennsylvania. Delaware Watershed Research Conference and the BU's College of Science and Technology Research Day. Her thesis research was funded by a Graduate Student Thesis Research Grant and a Bloomsburg University Professional Experience Grant.  Dr. Thomas Klinger was Caitlyn's thesis advisor. Serving on her thesis committee were Drs. Lauri Green, John Hranitz and Cindy Venn.

Caitlyn, a native of Philadelphia, PA, earned he bachelor's degree in Marine Science and General Biology at East Stroudsburg University. As a graduate assistant at BU, she provided support to several classes including Integrative Invertebrate Zoology, Integrated Physiology Laboratory, and Concepts in Biology 1 and 2.  She has tutored at ABLE, the Academic Biology Laboratory Environment, at Columbia Residence Hall. Caitlyn was inducted as a graduate student to Tri-Beta, the Biology Honor Society. She has been involved with recruitment at the BU Graduate School Fair and has mentored undergraduate research.
