BAHS at CPUB's 50th Anniversary Meeting

BAHS was well-represented at the 50th Annual Meeting of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania University Biologists (CPUB) at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania on April 12 and 13, 2019.  The annual meeting is an opportunity for faculty and students from universities in the PA State System of Higher Education  to join for a day of research presentations and workshops. The keynote address "Pseudo science Debate in Medicine and its Ethical Implications" was delivered by Dr. Kia Aramesh, director of the James F. Drake Bioethics Institute at Edinboro University. Attending were BAHS students Andrew Cross and Kyle Flannery and faculty members Dr. Abby Hare-Harris, Dr.  
   Cindy Surmacz, and Dr. Kevin 
   Williams. 




The following research projects were presented:
Kyle Flannery, M.W. Michel, and Abby Hare-Harris. Characterization of Developmental Milestones of Language in Austism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) 

Andrew S. Cross, Erin N. Smith, John M. Hranitz, and Cynthia Surmacz. Assessing oxidative stress in honey bees exposed to sublethal doses of the neonicotinoid pesticide imidacloprid.

Senior and first prize poster in the organismic biology
Andrew Cross was honored at the CPUB banquet as the recipient of the Outstanding Senior in Biology award. Outstanding seniors were recognized from each of the PA System of High Education universities. Andrew received first prize for his poster in the organismic biology division. Andrew and Kyle are recipients of CPUB student research grants.
