Allison Sowers and Kyle Mausteller receive Dr. Stephen E. Schell Award

Allison Sowers and Kyle Mausteller
Two BAHS students, Allison Sowers and Kyle Maustellerhave been named recipients of the Dr. Stephen E. Schell Award. This award was generously established by Dr. Stephen E. Schell, MD (BS Biology, 1975), a board certified otolaryngologist and graduate of Temple University School of Medicine. Funding provided by the award assists pre-medical science students in preparing for osteopathic or allopathic medical school by helping to defray the cost of a preparatory course or materials for the Medical College Admission Test.


Allison, is a biology, pre-medical sciences major and dean’s list student. She is the public relations chair of the Pre-medical Science Club and member of Colleges Againsts Cancer. Allison has extensive healthcare experience. She has shadowed a pediatrician, at Hanover Pediatrics, interned at Summit Health, and observed at Wellspan Gettysburg Hospital. This summer she received a Michael L. & Beth Boguski Professional U Capstone Experience Grant to support her internship with International Medical Aid in Mobasa, Kenya. Allison is active in the community and participated in Relay for Life, the Big Event, the Science Iditarod, the Tri-Sigma Powder Puff Game, She has volunteered in Dr. Beishline's laboratory.

Kyle, a B.S. Biology, pre-medical sciences major with minors in chemistry and psychology. is a member of the Bloomsburg University Honors Program. He is a Board of Governors scholar, advisory board member, and mentor. Kyle has been inducted in the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi and Tri-Beta Biology honor society.  He is a member of the pre-medical sciences club, the Biological and Allied Health Sciences Club, and will serve as Tri-Beta president next year.  He has provided over 120 hours of community service as a member of the national co-ed service fraternity Alpha Phi Omega. He serves as this group's co-chair of the Science Technology, Engineering and Math Committee, Kyle is conducting honors research on telomere regulation in the laboratory of Dr. Kate Beishline. He recently presented his research at the College of Science and Technology Research Day and was awarded an URSCA grant to continue his work this summer.
