Dr. Angela Hess, associate professor, began her term as BAHS chairperson during summer 2017. She earned a B.S. in
Microbiology with minors in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Penn State
University and a Ph.D. in Anatomy and Cell Biology with an emphasis in
molecular medicine from the University of Iowa.
Dr. Hess’s research focuses on the cellular signaling pathways involved
in malignant melanoma. She has conducted cancer research as a postdoctoral
fellow at the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Iowa, as
a research scientist at Children’s Memorial Research Center in Chicago, and as
a research assistant professor at the Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern
University. To support her work,
she has garnered campus research grants totaling over $65,000, a PASSHE Faculty
Professional Development Grant, and a Melanoma Research Foundation Career
Development Award of $100,000. Dr. Hess has published
20 papers and 3 book chapters. She is the Past-President of The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. She has been recognized by the College of
Science and Technology for her teaching, scholarship, and service.
