Exploring Primary Care Medicine at Hershey

Luke Rodgers (left) and Dhir Gala (right) were selected to participate in the Primary Care Scholars Program at the Penn State College of Medicine.  They had the opportunity to explore current trends and issues in family medicine, internal medicine, and pediatrics during this two week program.  The first week is spent at the Hershey campus interacting with faculty, medical students, and admissions staff. The focus was on learning about the philosophy and practice of primary care medicine and the admissions process and curriculum of the medical school. During the second week, Dhir and Luke gained clinical experience by shadowing a family physician, pediatrician, or internist.  Luke is a graduate of Juniata College and is enrolled in BU’s Pre-medical Sciences Certificate Program. Dhir is a biology, pre-medicine major and Dean’s List student. He was elected President of the International Student Association and Vice-president of the Pre-medical Sciences Club. He has participated in Geisinger’s Jan Plan and volunteers in the ER at Bloomsburg Geisinger Hospital.
