Water Education Day is a program at Briar Creek Lake Park organized by the  Columbia County Conservation District that provides opportunities for area middle school students to learn about water resources.  Activities include demonstrations of groundwater flow and contamination, hands-on stream simulation tables, discussions of fish ecology featuring live fish and macroinvertebrates, a challenge on water filtration, composition of nature-related haikus, and a water themed musical. More than 75 volunteers from nearly a dozen organizations are involved in the event. Participating from BAHS  in this 3rd annual Water Education Day were Dr. John Hranitz and biology graduate student Corey Conville. Dr. Hranitz led students in a stream simulation activity, while Corey engaged students at a fish ecology activity station.  Students attending Water Education Day leave with a greater appreciation of our water resources and how they can  be good stewards of the environment.Water Education Day  earned the Governor’s Award for Environmental Excellence in 2017!
