Andrew Cross is awarded Tri-Beta Research Grant

Andrew Cross
Andrew Cross was awarded a national Beta Beta Beta Foundation Research Scholarship.  Andrew's proposal was entitled "Assessing Oxidative Stress in Honey Bees after Exposure to Neonicotinoid Insecticides. While no single cause has been linked to the global declines in honey bee populations, the increased use of neonicotinoid pesticides has been implicated.  Andrew's research will determine whether sublethal doses of these pesticides cause increases in enzymes in honey bee brains that reduce oxidative stress. If  the level of these enzymes corresponds to oxidative stress, it may provide tools to identify bees experiencing sublethal stress. Andrew's advisors are Drs. Surmacz and Hranitz.

Andrew is a senior Biology, pre-medical sciences major, from Benton, PA.  He is the historian of Tri-Beta,  a member of the Pre-medical Sciences club and a member of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society.  He plans to attend medical school.
