BAHS Seminar Series welcomes Dr. Matthew Fischl

Dr. Matthew Fischl,
from the Section on Neuronal Circuitry at the National Institutes of Health/National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders gave a presentation entitled "Auditory Feedback: Investigating Synaptic Input Integration in the Auditory Brainstem Using Novel Sectioning Techniques." at the BAHS weekly seminar series on February 26 on zoom. Dr. Fischl presented a fascinating talk that discussed the medial olivocochlear circuit (MOC) and a novel tissue preparation technique called "the wedge" to study neuronal circuits. His work points to the conclusions that inhibitory input to the MOC is delivered by the medial nucleus of the Trapezoid Body and that inhibition modulates MOC output. Dr. Fischl's virtual visit was at the invitation of Drs. Coleman and Klingerman, former colleagues at Lehigh University,

Dr. Fischl also shared information on the PostBaccalaureate Intramural Research Training Award program at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). See: https://www.training.nih.gov/programs/postbac_irta [training.nih.gov] This program is a great opportunity for recent college graduates who are planning to apply to graduate or professional school in the future. Program participants engage full-time, for one or two years, in biomedical research with leading scientists at the NIH.
