21 Years of Dendrology at BU

2018 marks the 21st anniversary of BIOLOGY 200 Dendrology, the study of trees and shrubs. The course was written by Dr. George Chamuris, and first taught in the summer of 1997. Dendrology was modeled after the standard undergraduate course offered at SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry in the Department of Environmental and Forest Biology where Dr. Chamuris earned his PhD in 1985. Much of the course time is spent in the field, where students learn how to identify woody plants, and can learn about plants in their natural ecological setting. Indoor work includes winter twig identification and detailed study of wood anatomy and histology. The current (Fall 2018) offering will be the last since Dr. Chamuris is planning to retire next year. Unfortunately there were no class photos for the summers of 1999, 2001 and 2001
